At Carshalton Park Dental Practice, we are continuously developing and furthering our skills whilst also investing in the latest innovative dental technologies. Our Cone Beam CT Scanner is a state-of-the-art scanning machine that is used to produce precise, high resolution 3D and 2D images of a patient’s mouth.

What is Cone Beam CT Scanning?

Cone Beam CT provides volumetric images that provide complete three-dimensional views of critical anatomy for more thorough analysis of bone structure and tooth orientation. Cone Beam CT delivers accurate scans with images comparable to medical CT’s with a much lower radiation dose and quicker scan times.

With this type of advanced equipment, patients can receive the highest quality advanced dental care. Scanning allows us to be efficient in facilitating many dental treatments.

The Imaging System We Use:

The Cone Beam CT scanner we use is the Carestream 8200.

The CS 8200 system features breakthrough innovations that enable us to scan our patients quickly, accurately and comfortably. We can obtain the 2D and 3D images we need without referring patients to outside imaging centres. This translates into fewer visits and faster treatment.

The CS 8200 3D ensures that we are properly positioning patients so that every scan captures exactly what we need, which can help us eliminate the need to rescan. Because patients are more comfortable during the imaging process, they are less likely to move and cause blurring, which can also create the need to rescan. If a follow-up scan becomes necessary in the future, the system remembers the positioning parameters from the first time, resulting in a shorter overall appointment.

We want to emphasize that we follow every precaution to minimize patient exposure to radiation whenever we obtain images for diagnosis and treatment. The CS 8200 3D addresses this issue and strictly adheres to the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle. The system’s high-power generator allows us to acquire high-quality images at a lower dose to the patient than other imaging systems. The system also allows us to target the exact area for exposure so that other tissues around the mouth will not be unnecessarily irradiated, which is another way the system limits the patient’s radiation exposure.

Advantages of CBCT Scans

• CBCT Scans are minimally invasive, particularly beneficial for anxious patients

• The patient has an improved understanding of their diagnosis and treatment plan

• Desired results can be achieved efficiently, with potential errors during treatment planning greatly reduced

If you refer a patient to us, we will ensure you are fully informed about progress and outcomes. Once we receive your referral, we will then contact the patient directly to make an appointment for consultation, keeping you informed of progress.
